Tonight would be a good night to have the stove fitted and working. Instead it’s sitting in it’s box in the new hearth. So this is what the SGH fireplace used to look like (This picture was taken about 4 years ago, just before Christmas):

And on a good day, it looked like this:

More often though, it looked like this – slightly random.

Then we started the house renovations, and it looked like this: part train station, part utility room, part store cupboard (note the beautiful Mothering Sunday flowers in the foreground, which somewhat off-set the desolation of the rest of the room – just look at the dust around the top of the green glass bottle vase!!).

And then we had the cunning idea to take the new floor through from the kitchen/living space to the whole of the ground floor. Meaning that if we were to ever replace the hearth, the flooring would be ruined. So let’s just take the fireplace out now. (NB The Tall One, on coming home to find this, was not shall we say ‘happy’).

So the kitchen/living space got finished (phew!) and we needed a break. A big break. From builders and renovations and dust. Then we forgot how bad that all is, and called up Richard the fireplace fitter, and asked him to come round. So last week the sitting room looked like this:

Now, we’re waiting for the chimney sweep to come, then Richard to come back and fit the fire and then, what I’m really hoping for is, that by the end of the month, it will look something like this:

Watch this space… and don’t get washed away in all this rain!
