What have we been up to – August

We can’t believe September is nearly upon us! It has been a wet and humid summer, and we will be grateful for the cooler Autumn air – and hopefully some of those beautiful Autumn days where the sun seems to make the world crisper and clearer.

We have spent the summer in kitchen mode. We have four kitchen projects on the board at the moment. We love working on kitchens – there is a different feel to, say, a sitting room. Kitchens are like problem solving – they challenge the mind, seeking out the best solution for the space, which works functionally and aesthetically. Where to put the blender? And the ironing board? How will this cupboard open? What hinges should we use? What style of kitchen suits this space, and house? We work with two different kitchen suppliers – a bespoke cabinet maker, and a really good supplier of off-the shelf products.

Here’s some ‘during’ photos of one of the projects:

What’s nice about all these kitchen projects is that they are quite different – contemporary, traditional, modern country.

Other ‘live’ projects include a complete transformation of several hallways. Not a space you may initially consider worthy of an over-haul, but this is the part of your home which most people will see, and which deserves carefully considered design.

And of course, our whole-of-house project which we have worked on from submitting plans to the planning office, through to the final accessories. It has been a labour of love for the Client, who luckily was able to live off site whilst the bulk of the work was going through.  It has been wonderful to see this space emerge for a sad, dark house to a light and happy home. Here’s a pic of the sitting, mid-completion.

We also managed to take a few days ‘off’ and visit Devon. Not strictly a holiday, as we were commissioned to give advice on a kitchen in a holiday cottage, but we enjoyed some lovely days in our favourite village, Sticklepath. Playing Pooh-sticks, splashing in the river, building sandcastles on the beach at Woolacombe, listening to the singers at the South Zeal folk festival, and enjoying a fabulous Sunday Lunch at The Globe in Chagford.
